Als Schwarzes Mädchen in Deutschland aufzuwachsen, kann als Lebensschule der intensiveren Art gelten. ManuEla Ritz ging in den 80er Jahren in Mügeln zur Schule, jener sächsischen Kleinstadt, die vor eineinhalb Jahren durch eine Hetzjagd auf Inder in die Schlagzeilen geriet.

Rassistische Erfahrungen gehörten und gehören - wie für die meisten Schwarzen Menschen in Deutschland - zu ihrer Lebensrealität. Aus dieser Lebensrealität wurde ein Lebensthema. Aus diesem Lebensthema wurde ein Beruf. ManuEla Ritz ist Anti-Rassismus-Trainerin.

In ihrem Buch zeigt sie anhand autobiographischer Texte, wie vielschichtig bundesdeutscher Alltagsrassismus ist und gibt Einblicke in ihre berufliche Tätigkeit.

Ein eindrucksvolles Zeugnis deutscher Gegenwart.

Peggy Brunache PhD Cand

"African Diasporic Food" is a PowerPoint presentation by Peggy Brunache which provides an introductory examination of "Black" food and cuisine created, processed and consumed by enslaved Africans and their descendants of the Americas.

Peggy Brunache is researching foodways and creole culture using archaeological data from Habitation La Mahaudière, Guadeloupe. Although she cannot be present during "Inspired Comm-unity" Black History Month 2009, she has very kindly agreed to participate "remotely", by allowing us to run her presentation on African Diasporan Food.

Peggy Brunache is completing her doctoral thesis at the University of Texas at Austin (Center for African and African American Studies).

Bonisanani Spiritual Gospelchor

Bonisanani ist ein Panafrikanischer Gospel Chor der durch Musik die afrikanische Kultur in der Welt bekannt machen möchte. Wir singen unsere Lieder in mehreren afrikanischen Sprachen sowie in Deutsch, Englisch, Französisch und Portugiesisch.
Der Chor besteht aus Mitgliedern die aus den verschiedensten Ländern Afrikas kommen wie: Benin, Kamerun, Gambia, Elfenbeinküste, Nigeria, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Kongo und Angola.

Seit 2005 hatten wir schon mehrere Konzerte in Deutschland, z.B. beim Gospel Award 2005, mehrere Benefiz Konzerte, Pop Komm 2007 und Charity Club Berlin Feb. 2008

The American-born Soprano Yvonne Frazier will provide a presentation on Spirituals.

The Spiritual is a musical art form that is indigenous, specific and born out of the enslaved African experience in the United States.

As a result of the interaction of social, religious and African, American and European musical elements, Spirituals originally served as an outlet for a vast spectrum of needs and causes. Beginning with a basic emotional need for comfort to the spirit and relief for heavy work loads, the Spiritual also served to tell or explain religious stories and reveal expressions of faith. Spirituals provided a means of escape, both physically and mentally, gave voice to social-political protests and literally helped to birth and support movements and institutions.

At the same time, many messages of this spectrum were often veiled in coded language in order to maintain the appearance, in the eyes of the slave owners, that assimilation into the dominant white American culture was peacefully taking place.

This multi-media presentation will be held in English.
